French trader and army officer who lived among the Illinois in the Mississippi Valley for over forty years between 1687 and 1729. De Liette may have been a cousin or nephew of Henry Tonty, La Salle's devoted lieutenant, and followed his kinsman to Illinois in 1687. He lived with the Miami at Chicago from 1698 to 1702, and spent many years with the Illinois at Fort St. Louis (Starved Rock).
